Designer To Watch: Saloni Lodha

To complete your summer wardrobe, you’ll definitely want to pick up a piece from Saloni Lodha’s eponymous fashion line, Saloni. Feminine, youthful, and casual yet ultra chic, Lodha’s designs consistently land her celebrity devotees like Emma Watson on the best-dressed lists. Rajasthani Marwari by heritage, Saloni incorporates Indian styling into her sporty western-wear, especially in her choice of prints, giving her collections a richness that sets them apart from the pack.

With a background in graphic design, Saloni made her way into the fashion world nearly a decade ago in Hong Kong, where she set up pop-up boutiques and sold one-off pieces of clothing she had designed. Lucky for us, her clothing line has gone from one-off to global.

According to Saloni, the Saloni woman is “someone with a mix-it-up fashion philosophy, who is always a little bit adventurous in the way she dresses. She seizes a feminine appeal without being too girly.” Although she doesn’t have any style rules, she loves “lots of color, vintage jewelry mixed with tailored jackets and very high heels!” If you’re a city girl with an affinity for the exotic, Saloni belongs on your “designers to covet” list.

Her African inspired Spring/Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection (pictured to the left) is a bright, breezy and eclectic collection of dresses and separates. With hand-painted prints, block designs and flowing styling, Saloni gives a nod to India, where the pieces are sampled and manufactured. You’ll fall in love with the flattering silhouettes and gorgeous fabrics that are the hallmark of this collection of summer essentials.
