With wedding season in full swing, we know exactly what you need: some classic, versatile pieces to wear to the many parties on your busy social calendar. The piece we’re currently lusting after is Luxemi’s net saree with buttas and delicately bejeweled borders, which you can borrow in black (for only $78!), or buy in a soft green or pink, because it is simple yet unmistakably chic.
At Couture Week in Delhi, it became very clear to us that this season, Indian designers has steered away from gaudy fashion, making way for classic, understated style. Pastel tones were all over the runway, so we are especially loving this piece in yummy pista green and soft baby pink.
As for styling, the ideal way to wear this delicate saree is with sophisticated high heel pumps and antique gold and kundan earrings (left and right above). Deck your wrists with a chunky bracelet and leave your neck bare — the gorgeous sequined border will give your neck just the right amount of dazzle.
For a more classic look, try adding an antique brocade blouse (above left) in a dull copper, gold or bronze. But if you’re a girl who loves glamour, a sequined blouse (above right) and matching shimmer petticoat will add just the right amount of glam to make your outfit really sparkle. If the net saree is too sheer for your taste, wear a fitted corset in a tube style that’ll bare your shoulders but cover your midriff (a style that is also great for apple shapes with thicker midriffs). If worn for a traditional event, pair with lots of kadas and a statement maang tikka to stand out. As a finishing touch to complete your sheer saree look, put your hair in a side bun and wear matte coral lipstick.
The result of your finished look? Sheer bliss.
