2012 Filmfare Awards Fashion – Get Bollywood Red Carpet Looks for Less

One of Luxemi’s main missions is to stay on top of India’s hottest fashion trends and make them accessible (and affordable!) to fashionistas in the US. We were super pumped to see what some of Bollywood’s biggest stars were wearing at the 2012 Filmfare Awards last weekend, and even more excited to bring you suggestions on how to get these looks — often at a fraction of the cost!

Raveena Tandon lit up the room in a simple, but lush, siren-red saree with a gold border. She paired it with a contrast gold and red blouse, and pear-shaped gold earrings with a stone center.  To just about replicate the look, get Luxemi’s Red Crinkle Georgette (Chiffon) Saree with Knitwork Border (it comes with an unstitched contrast gold and red blouse too!). If you’d rather borrow and get this look for a lot less, be on the lookout for Luxemi’s coming-very-soon Lehenga collection, which will feature this stunning Red Lehenga with a Gold Border for $148.

To complete Raveena’s look, you can buy Refined Gold and Pearl Pendant Set with Pear-shaped earrings, or borrow the Victorian Set with Faux Rubies for an almost-exact match.

Early 2000’s it-girl Karisma Kapoor was back on the red carpet, this time in a Manish Malhotra white and silver embellished saree with a coral and pink border.  To score this “statement-saree” look for less, borrow Luxemi’s flawless net Pearl Embellished Statement Saree for $178.  The heavy embellishment and trend coral & pink thread work border will make you feel like a million bucks.

Former Miss World Priyanka Chopra stepped outside the box and into a pale blue-grey dress by Salvatore Ferragamo with neck-lining spaghetti straps.  Give this look a more traditional feel for South Asian events with Luxemi’s Designer Racer Back Salwar with Sharara Pants by Kisneel. The unique racer back design and antique silver embroidery showcase the perfect blend of traditional elegance and modern style. And, in case you didn’t want to spend a couple thousand on a dress by Ferragamo, you can borrow this Kisneel by Pam Mehta salwar for $258.

Deepka Padukone strutted down the red carpet in a charming pink net saree with white and silver embellishments, and a contrast turquoise blouse. Snag this look with Luxemi’s versatile pink Net Saree with Buttas and Sequins.  The saree comes with a matching unstitched blouse, but try out one of Luxemi’s contrast blouses (and coming soon, contrast-blouses-for-borrow) to give this look a whole new feel. Wear your hair up and pair it with Luxemi’s Multi-Strand Pearl Hanging earrings to make an ultra-chic statement.

We loved Dia Mirza’s vintage-yet-trendy white and black saree with a gold border, and especially loved the black & gold brocade, 3/4-sleeved blouse. The minimalist look is one we think is hot for 2012, and are so excited to be releasing our collection of Neeru Kumar retail sarees very soon.  You can buy this elegant and striking piece for just $258, and opt to get a designer Black & Gold blouse by Wild Orchid to jazz up the look a bit.  Throw on one of your favorite necklaces to make this style your own!

Another look that reminded us of our newest Neeru Kumar sarees was that worn by Vidya Balan at the awards. She’s seriously channeling Bollywood goddess Rekha in this look, and we love the simple elegance of her green and gold saree, featuring the full pallu.  Snag Vidya’s look with this saree, and Luxemi’s Sterling Silver and Pearl Jhumka Earrings.

Last, but certainly not least, we were big fans of Miss India World Sarah Jane Dias‘s printed white/baby pinkish saree with a silver-embroidered border. The pinned-up pallu makes a for a great silhouette, and it’s glam without feeling over-the-top.  Two sarees in Luxemi’s collection gave off a similar vibe: The Foil-Printed “Club” Pallu Saree by Satya Paul and the Ivory Crepe Silk Saree with Inlaid Ribbons are both ultra-glam sarees that scream three words: Awards After Party!
