Although she enjoys wearing her fair share of bright, radiant colors, Priyanka isn’t one to shy away from classic neutrals either. The actress-cum-singer has donned looks in shades of ivory, with traces of darker hues, by Payal Jain, Abu-Sandeep and Anita Dongre, to name a few. It helps that this is the colour of the season too!

The wob, i.e. the wavy bob, is the hottest hairstyle of the season and the actress has been rocking this hairdo with incredible panache. The look is modern, youthful and oh-so-fresh—the ideal accessory for PC’s sexy seductress avatar as well as her independent personality.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Desi Style Statement

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan style file

Whether it’s her alluring persona or a killer blue eyes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s elegance has made her the queen of hearts all over the world. Soon after she was crowned Miss World in 1994, the actress quickly rose to fame and became a name synonymous with beauty and grace. Cited as ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’, it’s no surprise that her sartorial platter is full of interesting treats.

While she is usually spotted in black, the dazzling diva isn’t afraid to take risks on the red carpet either. What we truly love, though, is her desi style. From flowing anarkalis to regal embroidered suits, Mrs. Bachchan’s iconic Indian style never disappoints. We’ve got the lowdown on her killer desi style.

Red Haute Diva

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan style file

In fact, she steals the spotlight even in a simple, understated churidar kurta combination. Not to forget, her penchant for bold, red lips — somebody call 911 already!

Bejewelled Goddess

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan style file

They don’t call Aishwarya Rai Bachchan the epitome of elegance for no reason. The actress knows that the secret to amping up any look is accessories. Whether it’s polki and kundan jewellery, decadent gold and silver baubles, or traditional jhumkas and chand balis, she always has her jewellery game on point.

Sabyasachi’s Doe Eyed Muse

If you’re a keen observer of her style, you’ll notice that Ash absolutely swears by Sabyasachi. Of course, no one makes a better muse than the Miss-World-turned-actress, flaunting his intricately embroidered creations with élan.

Katrina Kaif’s Top 5 Desi Looks

Katrina Kaif Style File

It’s hard to look beyond a face as pretty and angelic as Katrina Kaif’s. Let’s be honest, she could wear a sack and make it work! No wonder this British beauty keeps her sartorial choices simple and fuss-free, letting that fresh face of hers do all the talking.

While sheath dresses, solid colours (with a major partiality towards black and white), comfortable sweaters and simple tops are her trusty staples, she does indulge us desi girls with quintessential Indian looks every now and then too.

It’s easy to spot a pattern though. She heavily favors clean, simple hues with a hint of pop and lots of Manish Malhotra. No draped drama for this lady—she is a purveyor of old-school cuts and silhouettes. Think floor-length anarkalis, traditional saris and lehenagas. Considering how much we love new-age, avant-garde Indian wear, we’ve got zero complaints here. We round up some of her top desi looks. We approve, and we’re sure you will too!

Go For Glam

Katrina Kaif Style File

Hello gorgeous! How beautiful is this unabashedly glamorous dull gold Manish Malhotra lehenga with a hint of pink and red? We especially love the hangings on the blouse. It helps that head-to-toe gold is a trend du jour too.

Luxemi pick: Steal her look with our Gold Cutwork and Crystal Mukesh Saree.

Coral Wonder

Katrina Kaif Style File

What makes this otherwise simple salwar work is the positioning of the slit. This look goes to show that a simple tweak to a same ’ol outfit can make all the impact. We love that she went easy on the jewelry and let her ensemble do all the talking.

Luxemi pick: Skip the gold churidaar and team this Orange Salwar with Asymmetrical Hem by Nikasha with cigarette pants in the same color.

Shine On

Katrina Kaif Style File

Katrina Kaif in this Manish Malhotra shows that one should never underestimate the power of a sequined sari. From your BFF’s wedding to a cocktail party, it will come to your rescue on many occasions. The addition of a contrasting color blouse really elevates her look.

Luxemi pick: Our Red Screen Print with Gold Sequins by Satya Paul fits the bill.

Black Beauty

Katrina Kaif Style File

This Anamika Khanna look is a classic case of elegance in simplicity. The addition of the cutwork jacket takes the floor-length kurta a few notches higher, giving it a slightly Indo-western feel. Add statement earrings to take it next level.

Luxemi pick: Give the dupatta a miss and wear our Georgette Salwar with Gold Foil Print with a gold bolero or vest that you already own. It could even be a high street buy!

Code Blue

Katrina Kaif Style File

This floor length jacket teamed with a lehenga in all about understated, royal grace in our books. It is an impactful look without screaming for attention and can easily be emulated for a winter wedding.

Luxemi pick: How about wearing our Chiffon Jacket with Gold Embellishment by Kisneel with a voluminous skirt in the same color or gold, perhaps?

What do you think of Katrina Kaif’s fuss-free style? Tell us in the comment box below!

Shaadi Chic: Our Favourite Bollywood Wedding Fashion Moments

bollywood-wedding-fashion

It’s pretty much a fact—Indians love weddings and you can always trust Bollywood to make them larger than life. You also know we’re slightly obsessed with desi clothes, right? So we’re pretty much always smitten by the 70 mm wedding fashion portrayed on the silver screen. The captivating cocktail of colours, cascading dupattas and the beautiful women wearing them…it all comes together oh-so-beautifully! So to feed our fashion frenzy, we decided to indulge in a movie marathon of sorts—to recount Bollywood flicks with the best wedding style. Are you ready to walk (or should we watch) down this star-studded lane with us?

Alia Bhatt in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya (2014)

alia-bhatt-humpty-sharma-ki-dulhaniya

Alia Bhatt’s quest for ‘Kareena Kapoor wala designer lehenga’ in this tribute to cult 1996 movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, saw her in some really catchy desi wear, styled by ex-Vogue India stylist Archana Walavalkar. We particularly love the sexy cholis she was seen in, courtesy Manish Malhotra. And then there were the side braids paired with jhumkas, finished with heavy kohl-rimmed eyes. Thumbs up!

Alia Bhatt in Two States (2014)

alia-bhatt-in-two-states

The spunky South Indian woman is clearly having her moment in Bollywood. And Alia Bhatt definitely stole our hearts with her portrayal of Tam Bhram Ananya in this adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s namesake novel. Her kanjeevaram saris, traditional kurtas, jhumkas, temple jewellery and braids adorned with fresh flowers have our seal of approval.

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

deepika-in-yjhd

No one does sophisticated glamour quite like Bollywood’s reigning sweetheart. Deepika Padukone’s trendy wardrobe designed by Manish Malhotra not only had us adding similar styles to our lust list, but also had us desperately wishing for her washboard abs. The royal blue ’70s style sari worn with a bikini blouse was a raging hit.

Sonam Kapoor in Aisha (2010)

sonam-kapoor-in-aisha

As a rich Delhi fashionista, Sonam Kapoor naturally had a wardrobe to match. And it wasn’t just her Diors and Chanels that left us green-eyed. Much before all-white Indian wear became an it-trend, Kapoor sported the ethereal look (an Anamika Khanna lehenga, if you must know) in this movie, perfectly offset with a brilliant polki set. In fact, all through the movie, she was partial to ivory Indian wear and uncut diamond jewellery. Très chic, indeed.

Anushka Sharma in Band Baaja Baarat (2010)

anushka-sharma-band-baaja-baraat

Anushka Sharma’s loud, quintessential Punjabi ensembles in this wedding flick may not have been high fashion, but they definitely echoed with the girl next door. There’s no denying that it further fuelled our love affair with OTT color blocking, kitschy elements, patialas and mojaris!

Aishwariya Rai Bachchan in Jodhaa Akbar (2008)

jodhaa-akbar

Period love story Jodhaa Akbar was a jewellery fanatic’s delight. The exquisite and extravagant jewellery worn by Aishwariya Rai Bachchan (all by Tanishq, perfectly complemented by elegant Neeta Lulla lehengas) in her portrayal of a Rajput princess and then a Mughal queen instantly had us wanting her entire treasure trunk. Apart from making jadau and polki jewellery incredibly popular, the movie also brought net Indian wear back in vogue.

Luxemi’s 2014 Red Carpet Round Up

Sonam Kapoor in Vogue

Sonam Kapoor in Vogue

It’s that time of the year when red carpet alerts flood our news feed and Twitter timeline on a daily basis (well, almost!). So from international biggies like the Golden Globes, Grammys and Screen Actors Guild Awards to Indian favorites such as Filmfare Awards, Screen Awards and Star Guild Awards, we’ve scanned ‘em all. Like every year, 2014’s red carpets saw it all too — the good, the bad, the ugly and the disappointing. So after decoding 2014 runway trends and color trends, we are now  laying focus on the top red carpet trends to take a cue from. Agreed that not everyone can be a celebrity, but we all can definitely dress like one!

TREND: Sparkle and Shine

Sequined red carpet outfits

No red carpet is fully complete without a smattering of sequins. And considering the luxe lovers that we are, we lapped it all up! Our only grip — that more celebrities should have opted for colored sequins.

Luxemi's sequined sarees

Luxemi pick: Aqua Saree with Silver Threading and Sequins and Cream Georgette Sequin Saree.

TREND: Seeing Red

red alert on the red carpet

Siren red is always a striking way to go — it’s a guaranteed head turner. We love the bold approach Emma Watson and Elisabeth Moss took by pairing their red outfits with bright red lips.

Luxemi's red sequin saree

Luxemi pick: Modern Saree With Red Sequins

TREND: Risqué Risks

Risque red carpet outfits

For every safe, been-there-done-that look, there are always those who push the envelope. And it was no surprise that Queen B and Deepika Padukone topped that list this year. Kudos to Gaurav Gupta for dressing Victoria Hervey for the Golden Globes (wish they had gone easy on the sheer panels though).

TREND: Code Blue

63490_637176753009858_866141152_n

blue-red-carpet

We’re all for sightings in different shades of blue — the hue is electric, sophisticated and majestic. Clearly we aren’t the only ones echoing these sentiments as the color was a universal red carpet favorite this year.

Blue sarees on Luxemi

Luxemi pick: Blue Chiffon Saree with Aqua Sequins and Tonal Saree with Foil Printing by Satya Paul

TREND: Black and Gold

Black and gold indian outfits

Over on Indian shores, ebony spruced with gilded embellishments was a hot pick, and rightly so. We can safely say that there’s no going wrong with this color mash up.                                                                                                                                   P.S. We just can’t stop gushing over Dia Mirza’s draped Shantanu & Nikhil number. Score!

Mallika Mathur lehenga

Luxemi pick: Black and Gold Benares Print Lehenga by Mallika Mathur

Mommys to be on the red carpet

And we can’t sign off without mentioning the couture-clad (and super chic) baby bumps that thronged the red carpet this year, can we now? Here’s to the soon-to-be mommies and their stylish progenies!

Which were your favorite looks this awards season? Tell us in the comment box below!

Dress like Deepika Padukone — Bollywood’s Favorite Fashionista

Deepika Padukone in Vogue September 2013 issue

Deepika-Padukone, Vogue India September 2013

Deepika Padukone is our latest Bollywood girl crush. This doe-eyed beauty has earned some serious style cred with her recent super chic sartorial picks, making one thing very clear —this stylista can do no wrong. Ever since her movie Cocktail, she seems to be on a style roll, putting only her most fashionable foot forward. When I interviewed her a couple of months back, she simply brushed off this ‘style icon’ tag saying that she blindly trusts her stylist when it comes to her appearances (modestly skipping that not everyone can pull off the looks she does). And the stylist in question, Vogue India’s Anaita Shroff Adajania, constantly seems to be pushing the envelope when it comes to Padukone’s wardrobe. Here’s a round up of the looks we love most on her!

Deepika Padukone in monochrome outfits

Monochrome is a hot favorite with this B-town’s fashionista and it’s a look she wears well. Take a cue from her and slip into our Black and White Hand Painted Saree by Satya Paul. Accentuate the look, as Padukone often does, with a pop of color by way of footwear, accessories or red lips.

Deepika Padukone in muted colors

While most people shy away from muted colors for the fear of looking dull, Padukone (seen here in Sabyasachi and Ridhi Mehra) seems to have the trick to wear it down pat i.e. create talking points by sprucing it with statement earrings, an interesting updo and a radiant smile. Add this hue to your repertoire with Luxemi’s Peach Anarkali with Zari and Gota Work and Peach Burnout Saree by Satya Paul.

Deepika Padukone wearing Rachel Roy jumpsuit

But that’s not to say that she skips out on color all together. The fashion fraternity’s it-girl can pull off the most daring colors with effortless élan. We love this Rachel Roy jumpsuit she was spotted in recently. For those of you scouting for a similar desi ensemble, look no further than this Short Flare Salwar by Kisneel.

Deepika Padukone in lace outfits

Another trend Padukone has been quick to embrace is lace — be it in the form of dresses, tops or traditional wear. Our Gold Embellished Chantilly Lace Saree promises a touch of elegant sophistication, reminiscent of her looks.

Deepika Padukone in kundan set

And now for the look we are totally swooning over — a winning juxtaposition of old-world charm with a contemporary vibe — is the pairing of traditional/kundan jewelry with western silhouettes. Snag this look easily with our Geometric Gold Kundan Set and Gold Kundan Collar and Earrings worn over a cocktail gown or LBD at your next formal soiree.

We’d love to know what you think of Deepika Padukone’s style too. Tell us in the comment box below!

A Bollywood Life – Get The Look From Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

scene from hum dil de chuke sanam

It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than a decade since the classic Bollywood musical Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (Straight From The Heart) hit the big screen, especially considering how much it still influences Indian film and fashion today! Here’s how to capture the extravagant, opulent spirit of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in your daily life.

Famous Bollywood romance movies romantic comedy

For those of you who haven’t seen this Bollywood blockbuster, here’s the 1-minute synopsis: When Sammer Rafilini (played by Salman Khan) travels from Italy to India to receive music and singing lessons from classical musician Pundit Darbar (played by Vikram Gokhale), he ends up falling in love with Pundit’s daughter, Nandini (played by one of our favorite actresses, Aishwarya Rai). The catch? Nandini is already arranged to marry a guy named Vanraj (played by Ajay Devgan). Nandini’s father is furious that his student and his daughter have fallen in love, and banishes Sammer from the house. Sammer eventually goes back to Italy, and Nandini marries Vanraj, despite her feelings for Sammer. When Vanraj learns that his wife is still in love with Sammer, he does something unexpected: He takes Nandini to Italy to reunite the two lovers. But through all the tribulation of trying to locate Sammer together in Italy, Nandini and Vanraj grow closer, and Nandini eventually realizes that Vanraj is her true love.

nandini Aishwarya Rai style

Even as the plot shifts between India and Italy, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali never lets the movie lose its unmistakable grandiose Bollywood feel. Between lavish, traditional dance numbers and extravagant gilded sets, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’s visual look evokes just as much emotion and classic Indian spirit as its plotline.

Want to weave a little Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam influence into your life? Luxemi can help.

Aishwarya Rai best fashion looks from Bollywood movies

The most memorable fashion statement from the film is definitely Aishwarya Rai’s bluish purple crystal lengha and simple yet striking crystal jewelry. Blend Nandini’s rich, traditional style with your modern flair by pairing Luxemi’s Shimmer Georgette “Angel” Lehenga Saree with our classic-meets-mod Silver and Gold Circular Crystal Set.

For a home as opulent as the elaborate sets in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, try incorporating gold pieces like this regal Antionette Fainting Sofa from Urban Outfitters, or this metallic ottoman that doubles as a chic coffee table.

And just in case you haven’t seen the movie for awhile, here’s a scene worth remembering (The Chand Chhupa Badal Mein Song):

Whether it’s through storyline or set design, our favorite Bollywood movies always inspire us. Be sure to check back with the Luxe Report in the coming weeks for more features on how to incorporate the flair of your favorite Bollywood flick into your everyday life!
